Curses
Risk/reward curse effects and how they alter a run.
Awareness
Awareness is unlocked upon your first victorious run. Awareness is a "difficulty" level that can be adjusted to your liking, with each awareness level being increased for every successful run you complete, so long as the previous run was done on the highest possible awareness for your time. Awareness level is separate for the two Domains.
The following awareness levels cause the following effects;
| Awareness level | Description | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | An ancient Serpentkin inhabits the world. | A Serpentkin miniboss will spawn in one of the levels of a given run. |
| 2 | Start with one extra curse | Start the run with one extra curse |
| 3 | Nectar heals over 2 seconds | Your nectar heals its healing amount over the course of 2s |
| 4 | Basic enemies are more dangerous | Basic enemies are now buffed with increased health and damage |
| 5 | Bosses are more dangerous | Bosses gain a variety of buffs; Great Sister Vali's attacks now inflict Burn on hit; Muhaa inflicts Exposed on hit, and more. |
| 6 | Curses are stronger | Curses are now more severe; curses that spawn new enemies spawn more of them, and those that do random events happen more frequently. |
| 7 | You have 2 fewer Nectar | Your total Nectar reserves are decreased by 2 |
| 8 | Disable the health recovery system | Turns off the health recovery you can get after being hit by an enemy (Yellow Health) |
In each of your runs, you have chance to gain a curse when advancing to another level. Higher awareness levels can cause 2 extra curses to be placed on you at the start of the run, and increase the danger of curses. Curses will stay on you throughout the entirety of the run. Not all curses can happen on all maps - some require specific enemies to be present, or can only occur in one of the regions.
Certain curses must be unlocked before they can appear in runs. These include:
- The Planeshifter (must bring the Smith shards of metal)
- Jesters (Must bring the Smith shards of metal twice)
- The Dreamcallers (must bring the Smith shards of metal three times)
- Mujica's Shadow (must have had a specific Post-Boss Interactions with Mujica)
These are the following known curses:
